Family Vacation 2007

This year we were really limited on vacation possiblities because of Jeremy's school. He only has one break and that's not even guaranteed (last year's class did not get a break until Christmas), so it's really hard to plan anything in advance. He will definitely be able to take a break this year, but we could not all agree on a trip to take at the last minute. If you haven't already figured it out we're the planning type, even the kids! So we decided to buy a new big screen tv and a Nintendo Wii instead. That all sounded great until we went looking for a Wii and realized they are still in super high demand and they're really hard to find. Yesterday, we went looking again because I felt bad that the kids had to go furniture shopping all day and we actually found one. We were leaving Target with no luck when Bailey asked if we could stop by Game Stop. I thought this would be a huge waste of time since anyone who went to Target would go there too, but we went anyway. Gamestop had one left and the guy at the counter said no matter how many they get they sell out in less than 30 minutes and we just happened to be at the right place at the right time. The kids were so excited until I told them they couldn't use it until Jeremy got home from school. I know that's mean, but I thought since it was our "family vacation" we should at least wait for all the family. Jeremy ended up getting home around 9:00 and we stayed up until 1:00!! It is so much fun!! I'm really glad we got it. I know it's not a normal comment from a mom about a video game, but the Wii is super interactive (as you can see from the pictures). I had to post the picture of Jeremy and Bailey boxing. Bailey is our boxing champion ~ KO both Jeremy and Riley and I suppose I'm next:) Riley just had to take a picture of the screen as Jeremy's guy got knocked out which he thought was pretty funny until Bailey beat him too.

Mr. Fix It

Riley was bored mowing the lawn and wanted some company. He was able to convince Bailey to hang out with him and as you can see he is teaching her how to mow the lawn ~ I love this picture! The kids and I were out all day yesterday looking for a new tv stand. Needless to say that is quite boring for the kids, but they were troopers. Riley wanted to build the new stand on his own and surprise Jeremy by having it all set up. He did a great job and really enjoyed "fixing" things. I'm glad he did it because those kind of directions really frustrate me ~ the pictures never make much sense to me.

Dress Up

I'm not sure what this is all about really, but Bailey keeps asking me if I've posted these pictures. For some reason they decided to get dressed up in Jeremy's clothes after he got home the other day. Nice Uncle Rico pose Riley.

Mom's Day

Today the kids wanted to make me a surprise, so they convinced me to take a book and go into my bedroom until they were ready for me. While I was waiting they brought me some water and a snack. After about an hour they were finally ready for me. First they took me through each room in the house to show me they had dusted, vacuumed, picked up, and even cleaned the bathroom! In the living room I was surprised to see a gift and a card. Bailey gave me a couple of necklaces and bracelets ~ I'll make sure and take a picture of me wearing them soon. From both of the kids was a card, money and instructions to "treat myself to something special". They also offered to take a nap with me (they're actually still sleeping), go shopping with me and finally they offered to play three different family activities of my choosing. What a great surprise!

The Worthington

Last night we were walking around Sundance Square and Jeremy decided to take the kids in for a tour of the Worthington. He's always liked to hang out in hotels and the kids thought it would be fun too. Jeremy and I actually spent our first date at the Worthington. We were on our way to the movies in Fort Worth and I had to stop to use the restroom. For whatever reason we stopped at the Worthington. As we were walking around we happened to come across the Grand Ballroom, naturally we decided to take a quick peek. The room is huge and was completely empty except a microphone. Jeremy actually got down on one knee and sang to me. It actually really impressed me because I saw that he was outgoing, funny and willing to make himself look silly just to make me smile. Last night when we stopped by they were cleaning up from a wedding which is why Jeremy is handing Bailey a bouquet. In the picture of Riley it's hard to see but Jeremy and Bailey are on the escalator going up and Riley is running up the escalator clearly the wrong way.

Funny story: One night Jeremy and I were at our Pastor's house for dinner or something. His son had just gotten married and was talking about the Worthington ~ I think they stayed there on their wedding night before leaving for out of town. Anyway, I chime in with "hey, that's where Jeremy and I went on our first date." It doesn't occur to me until later that night that I never actually explained that statement.

Fabian Visiting from New York

Fabian called on Wednesday and wanted to come spend the week with us. He's in from New York for the summer so my kids were really excited to see him. We went and picked them up right away. They stayed with us through Sunday which is why I haven't blogged in awhile. I love my sister's kids, but having four at one time is a lot of work! Luckily we were able to spend one night at my brother's swimming. We also played games, went to the park, ate a lot, watched a movie and went to somewhere near Weatherford to see Uncle Charles' (Jeremy's Uncle) new corner store. I'm sure they'll spend some more time with us later in the summer, so I'll take and post more pictures. Fabian has grown so much since the last time I saw him.

Playtime with Abby and Reese

Abby and Reese got to come over on Tuesday to spend a little time with Riley and Bailey before they went out of town. Here the kids are right in the middle of making a cake for the Easy Bake Oven. Reese didn't want to wait for the cake to have his tea and I think he spilled his little teacup at least 5 times before Becky decided he'd had enough:)

The Flying Duck

For some reason my kids love playing restaurant ~ especially Bailey. They have come up with The Flying Duck restaurant and they take turns being chef/waiter. It makes lunch time a lot easier for me! I'm glad I was able to convince Riley to let me take his picture. I know one day he'll appreciate it.

Welcome Home

Riley and Bailey have been at Jeremy's moms since Tuesday and we have missed them so much! This morning we decided we'd throw them a welcome home party just to let them know how much we love them. So while Jeremy mowed the neighbors lawn for Riley, I went to Walmart to get the party supplies. After we got the house all decorated it was almost time for me to meet Cheryl. The kids were really excited to be home and had missed us a lot too. I know they were really happy to spend the whole night at home. We did lots of fun things: an egg relay race, balloon toss, dance revolution, darts, karaoke, guesstures and jenga. We ate homemade pizza and cake. You can't tell in the picture but I was able to spell out Welcome Home with m&m's. We also talked about all the fun things and funny stories they had from their week with Mamie. I think we definitely wore them out ~ Riley fell asleep about two minutes after his head hit the pillow. We put Bailey in bed first and by the time we got to his room he was barely awake.

Vacation Bible School

This week was VBS for our church. Our sunday school class was in charge of the synagogue. The kids learned what kind of church Jesus went to. So we were all in costume and actually had a mock service for the kids to participate in. Jeremy was in another skit so he's dressed as a Roman centurion guard. Last night I helped my friend Becky with the pre-k age. Wow, that was a lot of work! I'm definitely not a little kid person and it makes me so grateful for those who are. VBS is always a lot of fun and the kids love it.

Bailey's Room

You might be wondering why I would start a blog with a picture of Bailey's room. Well, Bailey is in a little phase where she doesn't like to sleep in her bed! Every night she tries to climb into bed with Riley or Jeremy and I. If that fails she'll make a pallet somewhere in the house. I can't imagine why she would rather sleep on the floor than in her bed?? I didn't get a picture of it, but she'll even make a pallet in her own room and then place all of her stuffed animals around her. At least it keeps her bed made!

Paintball

(Guest Blogger: Jeremy)
This morning Riley and I went to Fort Worth to play a little paintball. He's been wanting to take me since my birthday but we each had to save $50 for the entry fee and equipment rental. We also invited another father and son from our church but the father got sick so we just took his son Reese. We had a blast and came home with quite a few wounds. I enjoyed it so much that I'm considering selling my golf clubs to get a paintball gun. Once I get my own equipment it will only cost about $25 bucks each time I play. It's so much more fun than golf and it's a great workout.

Ringgz

My friend Becky gave Bailey a new game for her birthday. It was a perfect gift because she loves games and it's a fun way for us to spend time together. This game is really fun and kind of addicting so we've been playing it everyday! Today we've played it at least 5 times. It's a game of strategy so depending on who's playing and how many people you're playing with it can be really different. So Becky throw in some brownies and we'll bring the game:) Oh and make sure Greg makes some coffee!

Fun with the Stamps

Yesterday we went to Jerry and Debbie's to celebrate the Fourth of July . All of the kids decorated their bikes for a parade and as you can see the dads participated too! After the parade each family was given two cardboard boxes, markers and duct tape to make a boat that had to last long enough so that each child could cross the pool ~ Riley's and Bailey's didn't quite make it:) We always have a lot of fun hanging out with the Stamps and it was super sweet of them to invite us over.

Fireworks

I love the Fourth of July. I think partly because I grew up in D.C. and I remember going with my family. It was such a great show and I remember thinking they were going to fall on me. Anyway, Bailey has been afraid of loud noises ever since she was born, so going to a fireworks show has never really been an option before. So this year was our first year to go to an official show. We went to Addison because it's one of the top rated shows in the country, although I have no idea why they are on the 3rd of July instead of the 4th. We waited to go until the last minute to make sure we didn't drive 45 minitues then end up rained out. Jeremy's work is super close to the Addison airport so we parked at his work and then walked about 1 mile to find a place to sit. We ended up finding a great spot on top of a small hill as close as you could possibly get. Before the fireworks started they had some old airplane's fly by doing tricks. The actual show lasted 30 minutes and was amazing! We could actually see the trucks that they were shooting them from and when they did the finale it looked like the trucks were on fire! I had a great time and everyone else was happy I enjoyed myself, but honestly they are just as content with or without a show.

Bailey's 9th!!

Today is Bailey's birthday, but Jeremy has school so we let her decide if she wanted to celebrate on Sunday or late tonight. She chose to go for Sunday so that we weren't rushed and tired. She opened her presents, helped make homemade pizza, ate cake, and then we all watched a movie. She was a little upset yesterday morning though because no one wished her a "Happy Non-Birthday!" The only thing she really wanted to do today was go swimming, so we rushed to the Pointe the moment the sun came out and were able to swim for about and hour and half before the thunder started again.
